Artis the Artist, a natural born R&B singer has been singing and performing since the age of five. Born along with his twin brother Anthony on the south side of Chicago to their parents George and Ercie, Artis comes from an extremely talented family. His entire family sings and also plays musical instruments. His mom plays the piano and organ. His dad plays bass guitar, his brother Clarence on drums and his twin blew the sax. Artis played trumpet, trombone, and baritone and his five sisters sang background. Their living room jam sessions rivaled The Jacksons! Even though he's never taken a vocal coaching lesson, Artis the Artist brings to the R&B genre that old school first tenor sultry soul vocal style with strong, yet smooth vibratos and precision timing. Artis eventually left the windy Chi-town and moved to Kansas City where he soon became Music Director and member of a local singing group 4 Real, which included group members Tim Hawkins, Mike Jones, and Steve Bohannon. Steve's brother Tyrone was bass player and vocalist for the notable group Low Key. The group 4 Real achieved national notariety after winning a performance spotlight segment on the BET network show "Video Soul" and negotiated a recording contract that eventually went south following the serial murder of group member Tim Hawkins causing the group to finally split up, so Artis the Artist left the group and sought a solo career in music. Artis the Artis also wrote two jingles for the famous Kansas City based Gates & Sons Barbecue restaurant franchise that unfortunately became hung up with legalities. Meanwhile, working as an elevator operator at a local envelope manufacturer owned by former Kansas City mayor Richard Berkeley, Artis attended Royals Night Out with the company and was given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the Kansas City Royals Kaufman Stadium to a standing ovation. The performance caught the attention and admiration of his co-workers and bPositive who also was an employee of the envelope company. Artis the Artist and bPositive decided to collaborate and the song "Can I Freak You?" was the result. Artis the Artist is the ultimate professional who can conceive, write, arrange, and perform hit quality songs literally overnight. Artis the Artist currently resides in Kansas City, Kansas in the United States of America!

bPositive was one of my first friends on this site and I found myself going back to his page too just to listen to that song. I love music and whenever I hear something that pleases my ears I try to find out who the artist is. I was surprised to find that it was his very own. The sound takes me back to the late 80's early 90s when R&B was still so sensual. It's a very sexy intimate song. I hope we continue to hear more from him.
